Pain Management Education
Understand pain through a biopsychosocial and culturally responsive lens, including how the body, emotions, relationships, environment, and lived experience can shape well-being.
A whole-person wellness education pathway designed with lived experience. It helps people understand pain, build practical wellness habits, connect with coordinated support, and carry measurable progress forward as they rebuild their lives.
“We don’t choose the pain—we choose how we build from it.”
The purpose
Medissage was shaped by the founders’ lived experience of homelessness and hospitalization without adequate wrap-around support. The Medissage Way responds to a familiar gap: people are often asked to stabilize housing, health, recovery, and daily life while wellness education remains difficult to reach.
This pathway places pain education, joy, self-awareness, supportive relationships, and practical wellness tools inside the transition process—because people deserve more than survival.

A repeatable pathway
The pathway can be adapted for local communities while keeping a consistent core: education, assessment, supportive action, trusted connections, and progress tracking.
Step 01
The journey can begin in a shelter, recovery residence, housing program, clinic, community event, or another trusted partner setting.
Step 02
Plain-language education helps participants understand pain, stress, the body’s pain-management systems, and the role of daily wellness habits.
Step 03
When appropriate, PROMIS-aligned self-reported outcomes and an optional Prysm iO™ skin-carotenoid scan create a practical wellness baseline.
Step 04
Participants connect with medical massage, wellness peer coaching, nutrition education, community workshops, and trusted referrals based on their goals.
Step 05
Progress is supported through coaching, repeated education, follow-up measures, and a portable record of milestones that can continue through housing transitions.
What is included
Each pillar can stand alone, but the greatest value comes from connecting them into one coordinated experience.
Understand pain through a biopsychosocial and culturally responsive lens, including how the body, emotions, relationships, environment, and lived experience can shape well-being.
A structured model combining therapeutic medical massage with wellness peer coaching, physician referral when required for billing, supportive engagement, and measurable outcomes.
Workshops and peer-coaching pathways that help people turn wellness information into sustainable routines, personal goals, and community connection.
Optional noninvasive scans and nutrition education can open a conversation about skin carotenoid scores, healthy habits, and progress over time.
Partner-based delivery connects people with housing, recovery, health, and social-service resources so wellness is part of the transition plan—not an afterthought.
The 18-CE FMMBPM course and partner training help massage therapists, peer professionals, and organizations deliver more informed and coordinated support.
Community entry point
These 45-minute community conversations introduce Medissage in a welcoming, practical format. A chat may begin with an optional Prysm iO™ scan, explain what pain is, introduce the body’s pain-management hormonal systems, and explore joy as a meaningful tool for reducing the lived burden of pain.
Guest practitioners can lead brief experiential workshops so participants leave with one wellness practice they can begin using. The format is designed to be duplicated as Medissage grows nationally.
Designed to serve
People transitioning from homelessness, shelters, or temporary housing
People living with chronic pain or rebuilding after hospitalization
Recovery, re-entry, behavioral-health, and transitional-living communities
Veterans, families, youth, older adults, and people with disabilities
Uninsured or underinsured participants who need accessible support
Clinics, wellness centers, educators, and community organizations seeking a replicable pathway
Measure what matters
Validated self-reported measures can help participants and partners observe changes in pain interference, physical function, sleep, fatigue, social roles, and overall well-being.
Optional skin-carotenoid scans can support nutrition education and help participants see a simple trend over time. The scan is not a diagnostic test.
Learning, participation, referrals, and personal goals can become visible milestones within a broader housing, recovery, or coordinated-entry journey.
De-identified program trends can help community partners improve delivery, understand access gaps, and build a stronger case for sustainable wellness support.
